Some superyachts, such as the purposefully rugged-looking explorer vessels, display their various antenna domes with a sense of pride. For others, however, antenna domes are an eyesore and are more of a necessity than a stylistic choice.

For the latter group, promises of flat-panel solutions have attracted significant interest since e3 Systems and Kymeta first unveiled such a concept way back in 2013.

Up until today, however, nothing much has really come out of the agreement. With pressure from MTN, this might be changing soon. In 2017, we might finally see superyachts moving away from dome antennas to entirely flat panels, opening up a whole new host of design options in the process.
